Help for Helpers
Nourish:
Nervous System Regulation and Support
Being in a helping role can be rewarding and fulfilling.
It can also be exhausting and overwhelming, leading to burnout and compassion fatigue.
This is a space to tend to the body and soul of the helpers.
Who is a helper?
A helper is anyone in a role of supporting others. This includes therapists, social workers, nurses, physicians, dentists, coaches, teachers, caregivers…
What are symptoms of burnout?
Physical, psychological, and emotional exhaustion
Feeling helpless, hopeless or powerless
Feeling irritable, angry, sad or numb
A sense of being detached or having decreased pleasure in activities, feeling like you just don’t care
Ruminating about the suffering of others and feeling anger towards the events or people causing the suffering
Blaming yourself and having thoughts of not having done enough to help the people who are suffering
A decreased sense of personal and professional accomplishment
A change in your worldview or spirituality
Physical symptoms, including appetite and sleep disturbances, nausea and dizziness
In this group we work to:
-Understand the automatic nervous system, trauma physiology, and regulation
-Feel deeply connected and attuned to your own body and nervous system
-Feel the power of connection and attunement with other helpers
-Learn to nourish yourself with the same compassionate skills you offer your clients or patients
-Gain traction, momentum, and confidence towards goals that have felt out of reach (personally, professionally)
-Feel yourself as a fully embodied helper, able to care not only for others, but for yourself and the things you love
